The first thing you see coming in our front door is our staircase and railing. The railing was very old school and I wanted to find a unique design to replace it with. David, my Dad, my Mom and I all banned together one weekend and got to work on a new railing! This railing remodel finished before I started Lilies and Life so unfortunately, I do not have a tutorial on how we made this. I will tell you that it was probably the most complicated project we have done, but every time I look at it I still cannot believe we made it all by ourselves 🙂
Here is a before picture of the railing:
After researching railings and finding ideas on Pinterest, I was inspired by this blog post on The Nitty Gritty blog.
We used Sherwin Williams ProClassic Semi-gloss paint for all of the white parts of the railing and Minwax Dark Walnut wood stain for the railing tops. We used Minwax Semi-Gloss Poyluthrane to seal the wood stained railings.

We found this newel post at Lowe’s and got the rest of the supplies at Menard’s.
Our new railing is beautiful and now I am proud that it is the first thing people see when they walk into our house!

Love your rail remodel can you share how and the material you used to do the remodel. As I’m interest in optioning the same look, but do not known how to go about it.
Shirley, unfortunately I do not have the exact materials we used right now, but I do know we used 2×2 maple boards for the spindles, a newel post from Lowe’s and the the top dark stained railing was also pre-made and found at Lowe’s. I hope that helps 🙂
