My goal as a blogger and designer is to bring peace and beauty into your home. I want to help inspire people to be better versions of themselves and I don’t think that is possible when the space you live in does not reflect how you want your life to be. So my hope is to bring to you blog posts that can inspire you to change your space and give you inspiration. Welcome to my first “How to Decorate” blog post!

Today I am sharing with you some ideas on how to decorate your nightstands and give that small space in your bedroom some beauty and organization.
1-DECLUTTER
As you know, I am obsessed with decluttering so of course this is the first thing I am going to tell you to do. GET RID of things you don’t actually need on top of your nightstand. Your room should be your oasis so having a super busy and cluttered nightstand is not going to make going to bed peaceful.
2-Keep the Necessities
Once you have decluttered, keep only what you use DAILY on top of your nightstand. So for me that is a book, chap-stick, hand lotion, a lamp and my sound machine. Put the rest of the items in your drawer, in a basket under your nightstand or find a better home for them.
3- Organize the necessities
For those small items like chapstick and hand lotion, I use a decorative jar or vase to keep them in. That way I still have easy access but it looks pretty 🙂
Some items you can’t hide in a jar like my sound machine. So finding an organized way to display items like a sound machine is key.
(PS: My sound machine is a MUST (I’m a light sleeper) so I bought this super cute portable sound machine. It is pretty and functional, I highly recommend it!)
I’m sure most of us always have a book we are reading so use your book as decor!
4-Hide the cables
Most of us probably charge our phones on our nights… I know it’s not “good” to do that but I haven’t quit that bad habit yet so here is my advice on how to hide the cables. Depending on your nightstand you can use command strips to hold your cable in place on the side of your nightstand so you don’t have to reach for it every night.
Some nightstands have an open back which is a great spot for you to string that cable through. Another option would be to drill a small hole or use the cable pass in the back of the night stand so that your charging cable can be strung through and be more accessible. You can use this to create a charging station.

This is what I did:

5-Accessorize
Time for my favorite part, adding some bling to the mix. I like to add faux plants or sculpture type pieces to nightstands to give the small space a finished look. Like I said before, going to bed is supposed to be peaceful so pick decor based on what gives you that feeling.

Lamps serve two purposes, to give us light and to add beauty to a space! Make sure you have a lamp that is practical and expresses your style.
If you have a nightstand that doesn’t have drawers, place a basket underneath your nightstand. Baskets are the perfect way to add function and beauty to the small space.

I not only like to give you ideas on how to decorate but I know that certain areas of your home can’t just be pretty, they need to be functional too. So I put together this list of Practical & Pretty Alarm Clocks:

A few more tips:
- If you are a person that has A LOT of stuff in their nightstand, then I recommend you purchase night stands with lots of drawers!
- Decor that is too large for your nightstand might look pretty, but definitely won’t be functional so keep that in mind.
- Sconce lighting is a fun idea if you do not have room for a lamp on your nightstand. There are a lot of sconces now that are plugin and not hardwired. I LOVE this idea and have recommended it to my clients.
- Switch up the hardware on your nightstand to give the stand a new look. I did that with my nightstands 🙂
- You could try adding more books to create a colorful display of books or a vase with fresh flowers if you are so lucky to have some fresh flowers.
- Adding a picture frame of you and a loved one is always a great idea to remind you to be grateful.
I hope this was helpful and inspired you to make your nightstand pretty! Stay tuned for more HOW TOs!

If you’re not blessed with traditionally farmhouse style architecture, gravitate toward rustic wood pieces you can incorporate, like big tables, chairs, and even smaller accessories.
Good guide, but I would like also a guide about living room
Thank you for the suggestion! I just might have to work that into my How to Decorate series!
Where did you get the lamps? They are so cute!
Tangela, I actually got those lamps at HomeGoods a little while ago. Target may have a few similar options!
Where did you get those little faux plants from? Thanks!
HomeGoods has the best and most affordable faux plants! Or Target!
My nightstand looks boring and plain and I wanted to do something about it. Thanks for sharing this. Now, I can finally spice it up.
I’m glad I could help!!
The link to the first nightstand you shared that’s from wayfair isn’t working. It just sends you to all the nightstands at wayfair. Can you tell me the exact name of that nightstand so I can find it?
Unfortunately, my night stand is discontinued… But here are a few similar options: https://rstyle.me/+9n1mgSMk6B53XTeet__eRQ or https://rstyle.me/+niKWFO2tIEjSUET6io-Njg.

This is such a very helpful tip for the holidays! thanks!
Thanks for the beautiful input!
I like faux plants, but why not put some live plants on your nightstand? Not only do they decorate the room, but also purify the air. Clean, fresh air is essential for our health.
