Now that it seems like most of us will be working from home a lot longer than expected, I thought I would share with you some tips that can make your home office a space you love! In this post I have seven tips to help you transform your home office into a place you actually want to be.

Clear the Clutter
If you have been following me for a while now, you know what my first rule of decorating is… CLEAR THE CLUTTER!! Donate or throw away things you don’t need anymore. AND YES, that means all those papers you will never actually look at but think you should file. Save the important ones on your computer, file the necessary ones… recycle the rest!

Storage is Key
Office spaces need storage. We have files, books, electronics, office supplies and more that have to be stored somewhere. So if you have the room, I recommend buying some bookcases, shelving units or possibly even custom cabinets.

See below for some of my favorite affordable bookcases and bookshelves:

Table top organization
Table top organization is a MUST when we are talking about office spaces. I don’t know about you, but there are certain items I need easy access to all the time. The key to this is making sure those items have a space. I recommend using simple table top paper organizers and pencil jars.

I’m sharing my favorite table top organizers and cork board items below:

Make it smell good
I am an essential oil girl and when my office smells amazing I feel more focused! So I highly recommend putting a diffuser in your office and diffuse your favorite oils. Or grab your favorite candle and light it. So many things can affect our work environment and making sure your office smells good is a simple, affordable and an easy way to create a more productive work space.

Wall Decor
Now onto those walls! If you have big empty walls I recommend hanging pictures or prints of things that make you happy and motivated. Maybe pictures of your family vacation, a sunset or a favorite vacation spot. You want your office wall decor to be inspiring!

Start here with some of my favorite frames:
Add some green!
I love real or faux plants! Plants can be a simple piece of decor to add to your office space that will really brighten up the room 😊
Vision board:
Lastly, I love a good vision board and I finally made one for the first time in December for 2020. I used an old bulletin board, painted the frame gray and called it good!

I have seen some really neat vision boards made with metal grids or unique cork boards like the items below:
My vision board is literally in front of my eyes every single day and reminds me of what my dreams are for 2020. It’s a great way to stay motivated and focused and really think you should make one!
I hope these tips can help make this transition to working from home easier for you!
