Christmas Tree Decorating 101

Tis the season for some tree trimming! I have had quite a few of you reach out asking me how I decorate my Christmas trees so I thought I would break it down for you in a quick blog post!

Christmas Tree Decorating 101 includes a step by step tutorial on how to decorate your Christmas tree. Ribbon, ornaments, picks, tree toppers and tree skirts!

To simplify this for you I created an acronym: F.R.O.S.T.

(anyone else thinking of the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and how the ad campaign was Frost Yourself lol gosh I love that movie!… anyway, back to Christmas!)

F.R.O.S.T. stands for Fluff, Ribbon, Ornaments, Stems, and Topper. Let me now explain:

1- Fluff your tree

If you have a faux tree make sure to fluff that tree! Spread the branches apart and fill in any gaps you may see. For those of you with real trees, you get to skip this step 😉

2- Ribbon time!

Make sure you purchase the WIRED ribbon. You will need wired ribbon because it makes it a lot easier to control the looping look of the ribbon.

I like to cute my ribbon pieces into 10-12 inch strips. I then take those strips and loop them in random spots around my tree. I usually stick 2-3 loops together like so:

Mix in one or two more ribbons to give your tree even more dimension.

3-Ornaments

I like to use a mix of bulbs and other ornaments for my trees. Scatter the ornaments all of over the tree just like you typically would.

4-Stems & Picks!

We’re almost done! Take floral stems or picks and stick them throughout the tree. I think this is the step that really takes my trees up a notch! You can keep it simple like I did and use one type of stem or mixed in florals, berries and other fun stems to make your tree your own!

5-Tree Topper + Skirt

Finish on your tree with a tree topper and tree skirt or tree collar.
